History & Interesting Facts

Fairfield Lake State Park is located in Freestone County Texas and hugs the shoreline of Fairfield Lake. The park was opened to the public in 1976. The lake was created when Texas Utilities built a damn. The lake is 2400 acres and the park itself is 1460 acres.

Things to Do...

The big draw to Fairfield Lake State Park is the lake itself. It is a 2400 acre private lake that is home to largemouth bass, perch, and catfish.

Restrooms & Showers

The restrooms here were all very clean and well stocked. There is also a large fan in the upper corner to help circulate air.

  • 2 at Cooks Ferry Campground (1 with Showers)

02.

Dumpstations

There is only 1 dump station available at this park. Honestly, there should be at least one more to accomodate the fact that there are no full hookups in this park. The line to dump at the end of a weekend is usually about 8 RV's and can take up to 1.5 hours.

Boat Ramps

There are 2 boat ramp locations at Fairfield Lake. One is located near the campground loops and the other is located closer to the group dining hall. There is adequate parking at each ramp for boat trailers to reside.

Fishing Pier & Cleaning Stations

There are 2 fishing piers and 3 cleaning stations available. The fishing piers are both located near the group dining hall area. 2 of the cleaning stations are located near both fishing piers and 1 is located at the boat ramp near the campground loops.

Swimming Areas

Fairfield Lake State Park has 1 designated swimming area that is located away from the campground areas and closer to the dining hall and fishing pier.

Playgrounds

There is 1 playground and 1 volleyball court at Fairfield Lake State Park. The playground is located at the North entrance to Cooks Ferry campground and the volleyball court is adjacent to that.

Group Hall with Kitchen

Cost is $100 per day and no cookware or utensils are provided. It has a view of the lake and can hold up to 60 people.

Outdoor Ampitheater

The amphitheater is located near the Springfield camping loop and can accomodate up to 50 people. There is electricity available as well for screen projectors or audio equipment. A screen is also provided in front of the seating area.

The campsites in this park are surrounded by trees and plenty of shade. There are about a dozen in each loop that have a great view of the lake. The RV campsites vary between back ins and pull throughs. There are a good amount of campsites that are split level, meaning that there are steps leading up to the campfire and picnic area. Keep that in mind when picking a site depending on who you will be camping with and whether or not you want to be climbing steps.

Wildlife & Nature...

Fairfield Lake State Park is home to several interesting wildlife.  Bald Eagles can be seen in the months of November through February. Ospreys are also prevalent year-round.

Things to Note...


  • The campgrounds are located 3 miles from the entrance to the park.  Keep this in mind when leaving to go into town, as it will take you a bit longer.

  • There is little to NO cell phone coverage available inside the park.
